Real Madrid file public prosecution case relating to Vinicius Jr. abuse

Real Madrid have filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s office after Vinicius Jr. suffered even more racial abuse during their 1-0 loss to Valencia at the Mestalla.

The Brazilian winger has been abused all season long at numerous stadiums and little, if anything, has been done to stop it, with some sources claiming that he is inciting crowds, which is a disgraceful way of justifying racism.

Vinicius had pointed out a fan racially abusing him to the referee before things became physical amongst the players later in the game. He was then ludicrously sent off for defending himself against a headlock from a Valencia player.

This led to even more racial abuse from the stands as he walked off, much of which can be seen on social media.

After angry condemnation from numerous Real players and manager Carlo Ancelotti, the club have now acted given that La Liga won’t seem to.

In an official statement, the club confirmed their complaint would be specifically with the public prosecution’s office against hate crimes and discrimination. They also publicly condemned the racial attacks and labelled them an “attack on model of coexistence of the social and democratic state of law”.

Vinicius himself has said racism is “normal” in Spain and has been backed by many figures in the sport, notably Rio Ferdinand who called on other black athletes to rally together.

It is nigh time that racism in Spanish football, and football as a whole, is correctly dealt with, and serious sanctions must be imposed following this latest case.
