Tennis star Nick Kyrgios charged with assault on ex-girlfriend, due in court next month

Nick Kyrgios has become a fan-favourite at this year’s Wimbledon, but according to Sky News, he’s now been charged with assaulting an ex-girlfriend.

Kyrgios is a marmite character. Confident, combative and oftentimes rude. The truth is, characters like the Aussie are a rare commodity in Tennis and his presence does bring more eyes to the sport.

He has proven to be one of the biggest stories of this year’s Wimbledon to date, storming through to the quarter-finals and arguing with absolutely everyone en route.

Even though he leaves a bad taste in the mouths of some, there are equally, if not more, who absolutely adore him. They will be the most disappointed to hear the news which has broken today.

“Any publicity is good publicity,” Kyrgios said on Monday. Perhaps this will force a rethink.

As reported by Sky News, Australian reports indicate that Kyrgios has been charged with an alleged assault on an ex-girlfriend and will be due in court in his home country next month.

The report states that the alleged incident occurred in December of last year, with Kyrgios accused of grabbing his former partner, Chiara Passari.

There is nothing to suggest at this point in time that Kyrgios will not be allowed to continue his mission to win the Wimbledon title. We will publish further updates as they arrive.
