The RTE sports awards were on over the weekend and there were some big names up for the awards in another year of incredible achievements for our small island in sport.
Kerry’s David Clifford has proved to a a superstar of the game of Gaelic football and a lot of people weren’t happy that the Kerry forward was snubbed in favour of Katie Taylor. See some of the reaction below;

David Clifford won seven trophies in 2022, footballer of the year, man of the match in two national finals.
Produced some of the highest skill levels and individual performances Gaelic football has ever seen.
It's wrong on all levels he was not given sports person of the year

This isn't a comment on this year's award but in general is it not a bit strange that no Gaelic footballer has ever won Irish Sportsperson of the Year? It's one of our main sports.

This isn't a slight on Katie Taylor, hard to argue with her winning, but it's quite astonishing how badly GAA players fare in the Sports Person of the Year awards throughout its history. No win since 2006, only two out of 40 overall. No Gaelic Football player has won it.

To be fair it’s hard to argue against some of these tweets, especially when there hasn’t been a Gaelic footballer win the award since 2006. I guess GAA is always going to be up against it, because you’re not competing on the world stage.
