James Milner signed off his Anfield career in the most typical fashion

James Milner made his final Liverpool appearance at Anfield at the weekend but didn’t let the emotion of it all get in the way of him giving Aton Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez a piece of his mind at the end of the game.

The Argentinian World Cup-winning keeper is a man for the antics and Saturday was no different as he infuriated Liverpool players and fans with his time-wasting throughout the game.

With Villa 1-0 up from Jacob Ramsey’s 27th-minute goal, Martinez took all the time in the world on goal kicks and so on, to the point where he received a yellow card in the 77th minute for delaying things as much as he could.

It almost worked a treat but Roberto Firmino grabbed a late equaliser in what was also his Anfield swansong. The result more or less confirmed Liverpool will not be in the Champions League next season, and Milner let Martinez know what he thought after the final whistle.

While he did lift him up, it was clear that some words were exchanged between the pair.

Milner has been heavily linked with a move to Brighton this summer and his departure marks the end of an era, with the 37-year-old being at Liverpool longer than any current player and Jurgen Klopp himself, having arrived in 2015 under Brendan Rodgers.
