Evan Ferguson continues to perform for Brighton in the Premier League, do you think Man United should have looked to sign him over Rasmus Højlund?

Ireland has had a long standing connection with Manchester United over decades, including such players as George Best, Liam Miller, John O’Shea, Denis Irwin and of course Roy Keane. Should the Red Devils signed the 19 year old from county Meath over the Danish striker Rasmus Højlund?

Richard Dunne: He’s just signed a new contract and he’s in a good place. He’s learning the game and needs to develop certain things. There’s no doubt United, Arsenal and Chelsea and probably Man City and Liverpool will look at him. He scores goals. Maybe in another 18 months he’ll be a bit better suited. If he moved now, would he get the game time? He knows at Brighton he’ll play and from an Irish point of view that’s what you want. We need to figure a system out that plays to his strengths instead of leaving him so isolated.

That’s the thoughts of former Ireland defender Richard Dunne, Dunne was a top class defender for Ireland and in the Premier League with Manchester City, not a bad guy to take advice from. There’s no doubt about it, but this Brighton team are a top notch side with a quality manager.

Equally there’s no doubt that Manchester United are not a stable side/club at this current moment in time. But would they have been better off going with Ireland’s bright hope rather than the 20 year old Danish striker?

So far Evan Ferguson has scored 11 goals in the Premier League, including a Hat-trick against Newcastle back in September.

If Evan Ferguson scores one more Premier League goal in 2023, he will break the record for most Premier League goals scored by a teenager in a calendar year He’s currently equal with Wayne Rooney. Evan Ferguson has 6 league games left in 2023 to break the record.. If you think Ferguson will break the record visit Betway for the latest sports betting odds.

Rasmus Højlund has 0 Premier League goals so far this season for Manchester United, the 20 year old has had a spell on the sidelines to be fair, but so far if you asked the ordinary man on the street. I think every one of them would say Evan Ferguson is or would have been the better buy for the Old Trafford club.

Time will tell as both players will no doubt grow and learn, but you have to hand it to Evan Ferguson what a player and one that any club would be lucky to have him. You can be sure Ireland are counting their blessings that he’s 100% Irish.
